I take it as a good omen for our garden that we happened upon an abandoned garden gnome today.

EB was coming back from the post office when she told us our neighbour across the street had put a cement gnome out with their garbage.

In her words “it is really ugly”.

GB and I leaped to our feet, barely able to contain our enthusiasm for the curbside find.

Although he’s a reclining gnome, his legs had broken off – but the previous owner was good enough to leave the broken limbs lying next to him, a well-intentioned and suitably pathetic offering for better days.

Ugly ? You bet

And that makes him perfect for our little organic plot.

I’ve already applied some quick set cement to his broken legs – a touch of paint and he’ll be good as new.

He’ll watch over the bugs and greet the beasties all summer long.

My guess is the cats will love him too.

It’s been great working with the gang at biovia this spring.

Today we (Bigsnit Media) launched their new website…

biovia is a Vancouver-based wholesale distributor specializing in local + organic produce including fruit, vegetables, herbs, micro and leafy field greens and eggs. We deliver to the foodservice industry throughout the Vancouver, sea to sky corridor and Whistler regions. We place the highest priority on purchasing locally.

The idea is for the biovia team to manage the site themselves, so the site is built using WordPress as the CMS, with Slide Show Pro handling the flash banners on the home page.

This is the first phase of an on-going online project with biovia and I’m looking forward to seeing how things unfold. They’re the nicest people.

With any luck they’ll let me ride in the truck one day.
