Aug 9 | Wildlife Rehabilitation – Campbell Valley Visitor Centre

July 26, 2009

Local stewardship groups are providing interactive displays over the summer to help us celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Campbell Valley Regional Park.

Critter Care will be on hand to show you how they care for local injured and orphaned wildlife. Pull on your hiking boots, pack your binoculars and drop in to the Campbell Valley Visitor Centre to start your natural adventure. Families can borrow a free Discovery Pack and go on a self-guided muck-about in pond or forest.

Make a craft and play with our tiny tree house and wild puppets. Field guides are available for adults to identify that local plant or animal. Learn the plant or bird of the week.

Volunteer hosts will share their knowledge about the park’s history, wildlife and features. You can become a volunteer host, and need only contribute two 3 hour shifts over the summer. Please call 604-530-4983 for more information.

Time: 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Location:
Campbell Valley Visitor Centre
The Visitor Centre is located at the corner of 8th Avenue and 204th Street in Langley, via the South Valley park entrance. Follow the path to the yellow building.

Aug 23 | Slow Food Vancouver’s Summer Cycle Tour – Chilliwack

July 26, 2009

Slow Food Vancouver’s Summer Cycle Tours are taking place in Agassiz and Chilliwack, BC on August 22 and 23, respectively.

The leisurely, self-guided Slow Food Cycle Tours provide an educational and culinary experience exploring many farms, some that are open to the public on these days only. These tours give a rare chance to meet the farmers, sample their wares, and learn about agriculture in the Fraser Valley.
This year we are introducing a new ride in Chilliwack, showcasing new farms and introducing slow food lunch options. Come for the day or make it a fun-filled slow weekend!

The routes are about 25-kilometers long and follow flat, quiet country roads that are perfect for the whole family.

Tour times are 9am – 4pm on both days and cost is $10/tour or $15/both days. Net proceeds from the cycle tours will be used to sponsor two youth farmers to attend Terra Madre 2010. Slow Food lunch options are also available for an additional $10.
Global issues such as climate change make supporting our local food producers essential.
