July 5 | The Wild Side of Campbell Valley
June 27, 2009
Local stewardship groups are providing interactive displays over the summer to help us celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Campbell Valley Regional Park.
The Langley Field Naturalists will be on hand to show you the animals that call this park home. Pull on your hiking boots, pack your binoculars and drop in to the Campbell Valley Visitor Centre to start your natural adventure.
Families can borrow a free Discovery Pack and go on a self-guided muck-about in pond or forest.
Make a craft and play with our tiny tree house and wild puppets. Field guides are available for adults to identify that local plant or animal. Learn the plant or bird of the week.
Volunteer hosts will share their knowledge about the park’s history, wildlife and features. You can become a volunteer host, and need only contribute two 3 hour shifts over the summer.
Please call 604-530-4983 for more information.
Time: 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Campbell Valley Visitor Centre

Urban Agriculture podcast
June 27, 2009
I’ve started producing a series of podcasts about Urban Agriculture, hosted by Spring Gillard and David Tracey.
The series is for Spring’s new website, CompostDiaries.com, and will also be available here on VanGoGreen.
We recorded the first in the series on Tuesday at the YWCA downtown’s roof garden. It’s an interesting project, and all the food grown in the garden is taken to a women’s group on the downtown east side. You can read more about the rooftop garden / food project on the Y’s website.
Ted Cathcart runs the project, and he was kind enough to spend an hour with us explaining the project and discussing the challenges.
The podcast runs just over 18 minutes.
