Out of the cold.

I constantly debate with my wife about what we should keep in the fridge. I am on the side that less needs to be kept in the fridge. – “Tomatoes lose their flavour in the fridge”, “they don’t keep eggs refrigerated in Australia”.

So a recent article in Plenty came as interesting fuel to our continual debate. Common items like coffee, mustard, peanut butter, pills, ketchup, jam, bananas, tomatoes, cheddar, potatoes, pickles, camera film, vinegar, onions, butter, liquor, grapefruit and bread don’t need to be kept in the fridge.

A lot of what you keep in the fridge comes down to personal preference, and running a half empty fridge isn’t as efficient as running a full fridge. So what’s the answer? Think twice before you upgrade to a fridge twice the size. Focus on buying fresh, local food that is in season more often, and avoid stocking up and storing food. If nothing else, your food will taste better.
