Tap into a good idea.

A poster for the Tap Project that will appear in Chicago, created by Energy BBDO.Water is a valuable commodity. Here on the West Coast drinkable water is easy to a take for granted. That is why this New York pay for your tap water initiative caught my eye. Beginning Sunday, March 16 through Saturday, March 22, over 300 New York based restaurants will invite their customers to donate a minimum of $1 for the tap water they would normally get for free.

For every dollar raised, a child will have clean drinking water for 40 days. The project raised about $100,000 in 2006, its first year.

Tap Project, a campaign that celebrates the clean and accessible drinking water available as an every day privilege to millions, while helping UNICEF provide safe drinking water for children around the world.

It would be great to see something like this get adopted in Vancouver. How about during Dine Out Vancouver when restuarant traffic is up, and the average meal price our down? I am guessing that many people would be willing pay an extra dollar for their tap water to benefit a good cause.

  1. Hi Aron!

I’m one of the creators of the ad posted in your article. Thanks so much for the free press! Just wanted to let all the readers know that this year, the program will be in 13 cities across the country! It started with just NYC last year but has expanded in 2008, with hopes to go global in 2009. The ad above is for Chicago’s Tap Project specifically, and there have been localized media pushes in each city of participation. Thanks again, and hopefully the Tap Project will make its way to Vancouver soon!

    Elizabeth
