The World's Greenest Structure

UBC Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability The Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability at the University of British Columbia is building the greenest structure on earth. It’s part of the campus at Great Northern Way, and is expected to be completed in mid-2009.

It would draw 80% less energy than the model national energy code for Vancouver, require almost no off-stie energy, water or wastewater systems to function. Photovoltaic solar cells would generate almost all the building’s electricity and rainwater would supply almost all of its water needs. The building would also incorporate fuel cell technology. In addition, natural wind would supply most of its ventilation. Waste treatment would be handled internally.
